Weekend Finds

I thought I would share with you my finds from the weekend, trawling around charity shops and the like looking for treasures.  This week I come up with 2 rolls of vintage wallpaper, one really thick paper from Sandersons ( an English manufacturer) and the other a lovely pretty vintage blue floral (from USA). Im really not sure what i am going to do with them, but you know how it is dont you ? I surely had to have them.

I also found a new an unused (still in the packet) flannelette single fitted sheet and matching pillowcase. Perfect for the single mattress i have at the cottage. I dont even have a bed yet.  So by the time winter comes around I will have a lovely snug and warm set of sheets to climb into and hopefully a bed too! That would be nice ......:)

I also found a beautifull, jewelled, feather filled, vintage eiderdown, also a single bed size. Perfect! but I managed to get it into the washing machine before I had a chance to take a pic so you will have to wait for that one.

Lastly I scored some oh so lovely milk glass little bowls. I always keep my eyes peeled for milk glass but find it is usually too expensive. Anyway its just the ticket for me and as a bonus, milk glass can go in the microwave. This stuff was made in the USA also.
My treasures will go to the derelict cottage, so in the meantime it gets pride of place at my front door, waiting for me to pack the car and head off to the country!
Bye for now.......Linda xxx

Lavender Fields Forever

Hi out there in blog land. There is something so heady and romantic about the vision of lavender fields. I plan to keep this vision alive and mass plant lavender in my own garden. It would be delightful to have lavender hedges and especially since they look so charming and are so hardy, not requiring much care...perfect for a weekender. Imagine the scent in summer, the busy buzzing of bees and calmness of the purple and blues in the garden.

Modest Dreams

Hello everyone.....I do hope your Friday is turning out to be a good one...Do you ever find yourself dreaming of modest little houses?...yes that's right, not big mansions with rambling grounds but lovely little modest cottages with heaps of character and whimsy and prettiness...For me these are the things that dreams are made of. If you are out and about looking at real estate this weekend then these might interest you. They are all properties for sale in the Castlemaine area of Victoria and all have modest price tags to boot! Sigh...maybe one day my derelict little cottage will be as nice as these :) .............................................Have a fabulous weekend!

Hay or Grass?

Welcome to my new blog...its all about spending my weekends in the country, in my little derelict miners cottage.
Well Im looking forward to the weekend again and wondering if I will get a chance to visit my cottage this weekend.
Last weekend I managed to score a council letter (yipee) telling me to mow my lawn. Being the good citizen that I am I pack my car and head off on my journey to my little derelict miners cottage in the Victorian countryside. Needless to say , this is what I saw when I arrived.......no lawn in site.......just this stuff that was at least 8 feet high and looked suspicially like Hay. Actually it smelt like Hay under the blades of the lawn mower, and it certainly looked like Hay when it was lying there in my yard, looking as if it was waiting for a tractor of sorts to come along and roll it up or something! Picture this... a 40 something woman, pushing a suburban mower without a catcher over the tallest grass you have even seen in your life in ...yes...thats right...35c degree heat. I did it folks, I mowed my lawn!
